FINAL OUTCOME 3

My final final outcome, is presented on my Instagram page, @ewanhindesart (https://www.instagram.com/ewanhindesart/). Not only is the page an online exhibition space for all of the work I've created in Part 3, containing Final Outcomes 1 and 2 (bottom centre and bottom right, respectively) in full, but it shows a selection of the stills from the Quick Performances, lines up next to each other in relative uniformity, to create a sort of virtual mosaic of performances frozen in time, maintaining their ambiguity before you can delve into the full films.

FINAL OUTCOME 2

For this piece, I have selected 11 of the 22 Quick Performances which I felt represented the whole set quite nicely, and edited them one after the other to reference the seemingly never ending task of escaping entropy. The full video is well over 5 minutes long and Workflow isn't happy with that, so please view the full piece on my Instagram, @ewanhindesart , which is acting like a virtual exhibition for me.

Quick Performance 21 (I know I've gone over, just shhhhh): Connecting my joints together so that it is even more difficult to move around.

[CONNECT]

22/04/20

22/04/20

Quick Performance 19: Taping the cone to my ear so that it amplifies the sound of my sister screaming into it, causing physical pain.

[EARPHONE]

16/04/20

16/04/20

Quick Performance 17: Using the cone I made earlier in the project (as well as more tape) to greatly limit my vision and make moving around much more difficult for me. This work references the Park piece quite nicely too I think.

[TELESCOPE]

15/04/20

Quick Performance 15: Looking at sensory deprivation - by wrapping my hands in tape, I am unable to feel the carpet beneath my fingers. This is a cut, the full video can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart.

[FEEL]

14/04/20

14/04/20

Quick Performance 13: Playing on the themes of isolation and independence posed by ARSE PIPE, this time hooking up the mouth and nose together to create a cycle of breath within the body (which is obviously unsustainable). This is a cut, the full video can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart.

[MOUTH NOSE]

29/03/20

29/03/20

Quick Performance 11: Connecting my mouth and nose to the tap with a gaffer tape tube (with no facilities in place to allow air in).

[WATER PIPE]

27/03/20

Photography. The way I've edited and cropped this focuses and accentuates the process going on in the image, particularly the effect it is having on the body. Hence this outcome is similar to the Performative Objects, but I don't class it as such due to the fact that you can see the performance happening in the image (not to mention all the editing gives it an image focus, rather than object).

27/03/20

Quick Performance 9: Removing the tape from around my wrist. Not only is this pulling out my arm hair, but it's the struggle and feeling of being trapped. This is a cut, the full version can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart .

[HANDS 2]

26/06/20

26/03/20

Quick Performance 7: Removing the tape I wrapped around my throat. This is a separate performance because it is causing a different type of pain: pulling on skin/ tearing out hair, instead of compressing my trachea.

[UNRAVEL]

25/03/20

25/03/20

Quick Performance 5: Attaching a 'mask' over my mouth and nose to stop me from breathing. This is a cut, the full film can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart .

[BREATHE 2]

18/03/20

18/03/20

Quick Performance 3: Whipping myself with a whip made of gaffer tape.

[WHIP]

18/03/20

Performative Object from WAX (the strips of tape I used to wax my arms). The action of the performance is contained in the nature of this object, so that one knows what has happened, even if one has not seen the performance.

This is a cut of the film I made (the full thing, which is 2 minutes and 21 seconds long, is apparently to big for Workflow) which I will refer to as 'Nausea'. The full film can be found on my Instagram TV at https://www.instagram.com/tv/B9XECAflPXN/?igshid=1bo2b1gzqkwv4 .

This is documentation of me using the Slap Stick (I feel like I should put a little ™ next to it laughing).

FINAL OUTCOME 1 - PARK

This video piece is an adapted version of the Park piece in light of the shut down. It uses footage from both inside and outside the headpiece to simulate it being worn by the public and others watching it, with emphasis placed on the breathing to refer to the discomfort and suffering discussed in the Quick Performances. This is a cut, the full version can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart where all of my outcomes can be found (a virtual gallery if you will).

23/04/20

Performative Object: This is the tape that I removed from my body. As you can see, it is in a shower and is wet, so tells the tale of the removal process (I've already waxed myself with the stuff, I used the water to make it as painless a process as possible). Yet the mere presence of the tape in the shower, wet and tangled, promotes a feeling of discomfort, referencing the likes of WATER PIPE and DRINK. It is incredibly situational too - I did not touch it once I finished removing it, so it tells a vague tale of the process, the filling in of which on the behalf of the audience generates the discomfort.

23/04/20

23/04/20

And finally, Quick Performance 22: Covering (or thereabouts) my body in tape. Not only are my senses cut off, but the tape around my chest makes it difficult to breathe, and of course, it is very difficult to move in. I feel this summarises everything I've done, particularly when you start to think about the tape removal process, and how hairy I am.

[COVER]

23/04/20

23/04/20

Quick Performance 20: Putting tape around my joints so that it is difficult for me to move. The presence of the stairs adds the cinematic element of danger and potential for pain, as well as the restriction on how I interact with my environment.

[JOINT]

16/04/20

16/04/20

Quick Performance 18: Using the cone to amplify the sounds of my cries as a spin round. As you can probably tell, sound is a crucial element of this piece, in this case being the main source of discomfort for the audience.

[SIREN]

15/04/20

Performative Object: my feet after being wrapped up in tape, seeming to tell a story of a different type of performance (the action was more about sensory deprivation, but this suggests a physical pain comes along with it).

15/04/20

15/04/20

Quick Performance 16: Looking at sensory deprivation further. By wrapping my feet in tape, I stop myself from being able to feel the most infamous of pains, stepping on Lego bricks. Hence this creates a little paradox, as I am contradicting my original plan of inflicting pain upon myself - I will reflect upon this properly in Contextual Practice. The sound is also really important with this one, with the Lego falling on the floor. This is a cut, the full video can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart.

[WALK]

14/04/20

14/04/20

Quick Performance 14: Again looking at isolation, and referencing the Gaffer Tape Mask in both how the senses are shut down, and the rotational aspect, as well as playing off of ARSE PIPE and MOUTH NOSE. This is a cut, the full video can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart.

[ALONE]

06/04/20

Performative Object - this is the anal attachment after ARSE PIPE. The traces of faecal matter around the tip tell the tale of at least part of the performance.

06/04/20

06/04/20

Quick Performance 12: Connecting my mouth to my anus through a tube, with no where else for me to breathe through, so that I have to breathe out of my arse. This is a cut, the full version can be found on Instagram @ewanhindesart .

[ARSE PIPE]

28/03/20

28/03/20

Quick Performance 10: Triggering my gag reflex and almost making me vomit with a gaffer tape dummy (it'll definitely shut the baby up). This is a cut, the full version can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart .

[DUMMY]

27/03/20

27/03/20

Quick Performance 8: Taping my hands together then drinking water. A simulation of the lack of control in respect to drowning.

[HANDS 1]

26/03/20

26/03/20

Quick Performance 6: Wrapping gaffer tape around my throat to restrict breathing. This is a cut, the full film can be found on my Instagram @ewanhindesart .

[THROAT]

25/03/20

25/03/20

Quick Performance 4: Covering my nose and mouth with gaffer tape so that I can't breathe. This is a cut of the full film so that Workflow would let me upload it, the full version can be found on my Instagram, @ewanhindesart .

[BREATHE 1]

18/03/20

Quick Performance 2: Drinking water whilst my hands and feet have been taped together behind my back.

In this film, I demonstrate the use of my own version of a sensory deprivation tank.

25/02/20

25/02/20

Here I have created a sound piece by merging recordings of me using both the Zappy Mask and the Slap Stick, which I will then give form to by playing it in certain situations/ with certain objects (this will be mentioned on my Contextual Practice where appropriate).

24/02/20

24/02/20

This is documentation of me using the Zappy Mask (I am reading out the definition of entropy, to highlight that it has no place here).
